Santa Hears From Cool Kid

Each year Macy’s hosts its Believe campaign to kick off the holiday season. In addition to Believe Day, which is a celebration of all wishes, they encourage believers to write letters to Santa to support Make-A-Wish. With each letter written, a dollar is donated to the organization to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

In November, I enlisted the help of my first wish kid to help kick off the campaign. My first (and possibly favorite) wish kid was 5-year-old Finn who wished to be a ‘cool kid’ in March of 2014 and it was nice to reconnect with him months later.

I worked with Macy’s, Finn’s family, his elementary school and our neighboring Los Angeles chapter of Make-A-Wish to kick off the letter writing campaign and make it memorable. Finn also happened to be the wish kid featured on Macy’s Believe website.

Finn’s class was the first to kick off the campaign and included a day of letter writing to Santa, a hot chocolate bar and fun. I had writers from the OC Register and the LA Times there to share Finn’s story.

Additionally, Finn’s entire school participated in the letter writing campaign for Macy’s, resulting in more than 500 letters to Santa.
